Farming out west

Far West

This is the largest regional area in NSW comprising well over one-third of the State, and encompasses an area from near Moree in the north-west, to West Wyalong in the south-east, to Wentworth/Mildura in the south-west, and to Tibooburra in the far north west corner. Much of the region is hot and dry with limited cropping opportunities if away from irrigation or higher rainfall. Where water is available citrus, nuts, grapes and olives are well suited to the conditions. There are no designated wine regions in the Far West. The Darling and Lachlan rivers, and their tributaries, are important regional sources of water.
