McLaren Vale vineyard dining

Fleurieu

This region runs south of Adelaide to Cape Jervis and across to Lake Alexandrina, and contains the wine regions of McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek, Currency Creek, and Southern Fleurieu. A highlight is the McLaren Vale 'Sea and Vines Food & Wine Festival' held each June long weekend, and the 'Gorgeous Festival' in November. Langhorne Creek Winemakers hold a 'Cellar Treasures Weekend' in August where visitors can "discover the back vintages and museum wines of Langhorne Creek". Victor Harbor has a 'Food & Wine Festival' in January. Also, meet the makers at regular Willunga and Victor Harbor Farmers Markets.

Just the anticipation of this trail makes the mouth water...artisan cow & goat cheeses, a wonderful array of premium cool climate wines, gourmet preserves, boutique beers and cider. Then of course some truly tempting restaurants at the producer venues. The beautiful rolling countryside between stops heightens the whole sensory experience.

The Vale Gourmet Trail

McLaren Vale and it's surrounds is quite a remarkable place to grow consistently high quality produce. Even in difficult seasons, when other regions are having a tough time, somehow this area seems able to produce the same high quality with minimal year to year variation. No doubt the moderating effect of the nearby ocean, with it's associated cooling and drying breezes, plays a significant part. As the saying goes 'Location, Location'...and that it has! There are 8 producers on this trail and the produce selection is truly amazing. Wine, cheese, olives, olive oil, beer, ciders, mead, vinegar, preserves, honey, yoghurt, verjuice and much more. These offerings are from producers that have been around since 1890, and also those who have started much more recently.
