Relaxing in Esperance

Golden Outback

This huge tract of country is most of Western Australia below the Tropic of Capricorn and down to the Great Southern ocean. The Western Australian wheat belt is located in the southern hinterland and produces about 70% of the State's wheat and 50% of it's wool, as well as sheep meat, citrus and honey. Around Esperance in the south there is a Growers Market, reflecting the local small producers of olive oil, meat and wine. The annual 'Festival of the Wind' in March supports local produce during this event, saying that it is "in keeping with the sustainability theme of the festival...promoting low food miles and local produce".
