Historical Goldfields

The large regional centres of Ballarat, Bendigo, Castlemaine and Maryborough all started life as gold towns in the 1850s. The Goldfields wine regions are Ballarat, Bendigo, Heathcote and Pyrenees. Ballarat has 'Ballarat by the Glass' each November, and the 'Ballarat Beer Festival' in January. Bendigo Winegrowers hold a 'Winemakers Festival' at Easter, as well as the 'Bendigo Heritage Uncorked'. The Heathcote Winegrowers Association host their annual 'Heathcote Wine & Food Festival' in October, and the Pyrenees Grape Growers Association produce the popular 'Seduction by Tastebuds' series each year in the Avoca-Moonambel area.
