Riverina
The Riverina region is all about the Murrumbidgee River, which allowed the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA) to be created in 1912, and transform the countryside into one of the most productive agricultural districts in Australia. The area contains the wine regions of Gundagai and Riverina. The 'Unwined in the Riverina' is the major annual wine event, held each June long weekend. Local food producers hold centre stage during the month-long 'Taste Riverina Food Festival' which highlights local produce and promotes 'paddock to the plate'. Wagga holds it's 'Food and Wine Festival' in March, and not to be missed is the 'Booligal Sheep Races' in April.
