Eddie McDougall's Barossa Valley Favourites

These two Barossa Valley wineries are not far apart - so you better give them a visit!

Rockford Wines: An oldie but a goodie. The super premium iconic winemaker from the Barossa Valley is still one of the Australia‚Äôs most highly regarded. A collection of Riesling, Semillon, Shiraz and Cabernet blends make up the stellar collection of wines available to sample and buy at their historic winery and cellar door. Don't expect to find a flashy facility with lots of stainless steel tanks and high-speed machines. Instead, prepare to travel back in time as this winery is all about winemaking with old school processing and old vineyards. Try the Basket Press Shiraz.

Charles Melton: A small but an exceptional winemaker of the Rhone blends (Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro). The Nine Pope wine is one of Charles' most awarded and preferred by all the critics, and of course is also my personal favourite. The cellar door experience is very intimate, cosy and educational. If you walk in during winter, expect the log fire to be burning whilst you sample some warming red wines produced from one of the superstars of the region.
